Beautiful country pub and excellent food

I am staying in a hotel not far from The Lion on business but found that their idea of a vegetarian option for your main evening meal was an omelette! After a quick look on TripAdvisor I decided on The Lion. I pulled up outside to a beautiful, well kept pub in a nice quiet area. I thought the blooming hanging baskets that were clearly looked after, was a nice touch. I went inside and was greeted by a polite gentleman who explained I could sit anywhere and someone would come over to me. I chose a seat in the bar. My first impressions were good, the table was clean and I was immediately presented with 2 menus, the daily and the main whilst my drink order was taken. The waitress had a good knowledge of the daily menu but I ordered the halloumi burger off of the normal menu. There is so much choice for a vegetarian and thankfully they aren't all pasta! My meal arrived in good time and was presented to me on a wooden board. I normally dislike this sort of thing but I didn't mind as there was plenty of room to eat the burger and sweet potato fries comfortably. The waitress was polite and remembered to courtesy check throughout my meal. I would recommend this to anyone looking for good food or a decent selection of vegetarian options.

Excellent menu choice, beautiful pub

Have been many times but most recently this month to try the new Summer menu. Firstly, front of house welcome was friendly and warm, and a clearly busy restaurant didn't stop us getting drinks and seated quickly. Secondly, I was and always am super impressed at the extensive gluten free menu, although on this occasion I went for the Seabass which was delicious! Well cooked and beautifully presented. The menu is amazing and if you can get there during lunch during the week they have some fantastic deals on food and cocktails. The lovely bar staff were brilliant and I very much enjoyed the new 'Gin Menu' which was well paired with tonics- at exceptionally reasonable prices not seen in London! My favourite was the Hendricks, Rosemary and Fevertree offering- served properly in Copa De Balon glasses. If you go in summer months definitely request the conservatory or the garden as it's really pretty. Dogs welcome, which I adore as I don't own a pet! Having seen some negative reviews (which has not been my experience) I would say that fresh food takes slightly longer to prepare and I hope it stays that way. Finally the manager, Matt, came to assure me there was no gluten within the dishes I had and checked I was not Coeliac which was a really nice touch. Definitely book in advance for pretty much any night of the week and probably 2-3 weeks in advance for a weekend if you're a large group.

Lovely summers evening

This place is beautiful. Looks like it has had a recent facelift that has been very well done. Outside seating and access for wheelchair users. The staff are very nice and the food is delicious. Smallish menu, but done wonderfully.

I went there with my daughters, one is gluten free and the other has allergies to dairy, eggs and peanuts. The staff were very helpful, one of the most helpful places we have been to. Thank you for all your help. Also, the food was delicious.

We always love coming to The Lion at Wendlebury, one of our most favourite places to go to either a relaxed drink or a guaranteed tasty meal. We were celebrating a birthday and the team looked after us wonderfully. Smiles and great service. Thank you! We will be back again soon.
